Kimberly has been involved in music and ministry since she was a very young girl. Although born in Baltimore, Maryland, she grew up in Alexandria, Virginia and attended First Assembly of God church with her family for many years. With two sisters and one brother, life was centered around serving God.
Music was very much an integral part of her life since the day she was born. Her grandfather ministered in small churches in West Virginia and her dad sang with The Virginia Travelers, a men’s quartet that ministered at various churches up and down the eastern seaboard. Many times she would travel with them and quickly caught the passion of sharing the love of Jesus through music, beginning to sing in children’s programs at the age of four.
As a teenager, she founded the group, Heirflite, a contemporary Christian music group that traveled throughout the Washington, D.C. region. And as an adult, she sang with a ladies ensemble, One Accord, that ministered at different churches. Even with all the traveling, Kimberly was always committed to the local church, being part of their worship and leadership teams, helping make a difference in the lives of the people in the community.
Kimberly has a passion for touching the lives of others from the very young to the very old. Knowing love and guidance starts early, she was the Nursery Coordinator and one of the elementary music teachers at Christ Chapel in Woodbridge, VA. She loves being involved in young people’s lives and volunteers at the local schools and has helped with the youth groups in every church they’ve been connected to. She realizes the need to encourage and lift them up, and to show them they have a purpose. In taking care of her grandmother, she also realizes that the elderly need to know they still have purpose and destiny in their lives.
Kimberly’s deepest desire and love is leading others into the presence of God so they can experience His love, mercy, and grace. As a worship leader, songwriter, and teacher on worship, she has realized what it is to truly worship the Lord, learning that worship has nothing to do with the music, but all to do with the heart. Music, singing and/or playing an instrument, is the tool to express what’s in the heart which should be full of gratitude and love, honor and respect to the Lord Jesus Christ. Worship is all about giving God His rightful place upon this earth, but most importantly, His rightful place in our heart. It’s definitely in the words, but the words have to first start in the heart! Giving the Almighty excellent praise and continuous worship is her greatest desire and highest honor.
Kimberly is the Pastoral Coordinator at The Life Church in Manassas, VA. She and her husband, Ed, are also Area Pastors of the Western Prince William County region and part of the church’s worship team. Their desire is to reach the lost for Christ, reach out to the hopeless, and touch the hurting as life happens all around. Walking through life with people, doing life with those they meet is what their lives are all about. In giving, loving, and sharing the story of her son’s death, hope has been restored and made alive in all who hear.
She and Ed have been married for 26 years and have four children, Christina, Timothy, Ashleigh, and Stephen, a son-in-law, Larry, and grandson Cole. Kimberly loves being a wife, mother and grandmother, her greatest responsibility and most wonderful blessing from God, as well as home schooling their children during the middle school years, believing the first place of influence and to make a difference in someone’s life is right at home. The Burnell family loves spending time together and having fun, and looks forward to their family growing.
